Cooperatives of traditional products a good model for women economic empowerment
On 5 and 6 October 2018, CNVP Albania supported an exchange visit with its partners from Elbasan and Gjirokaster Regions. Representatives from Elbasan Regional Federation, Producers Group from Librazhd, Gramsh, Elbasan, Beekeepers, representatives of Forest Service, representatives of RAPA and Elbasan Environmental Inspectorate were welcomed by Gjirokaster Regional Federation and “Cooperative of Traditional Products DROPULL “D”. The aim of this exchange visit was to introduce participants to a very good model of producer group organization and to share best practices among Elbasan and Gjirokaster stakeholders on women economic empowerment activities.
“Cooperative of Traditional Products DROPULL “D” is a very good model which women producer groups from Dropull have used in order to benefit from natural resources that they have. This cooperative has clearly defined goals, is engaged in the forest and non-forest product collection, development and marketing as well as primary and secondary processing and the orientation towards meeting the domestic and foreign market demands. Every woman is welcomed at the cooperative upon their availability and interest to collect, process or produce traditional products of this area. Women are involved in the production of glycols, liquors, tea, oregano, essential oils, etc, which are accompanied by the co-operative label "Cooperative of Traditional Products DROPULL”D”.
The activity was organized through the Sida-funded project Forests for Local Economic Development that is being implemented by CNVP Albania.
